LaShunda Leslie-Smith has dedicated her life to building stronger communities and creating opportunities for all Rochester residents. As the Executive Director of Connected Communities, a community quarterback organization, she led the transformation of local neighborhoods by increasing funding from $200K to $2M, growing a dedicated team from one to 13 staff members, and spearheading innovative programs that uplift families and foster sustainable growth.
A lifelong advocate for social justice, LaShunda’s work is rooted in her belief in equity, compassion, and resilience. She is a woman of faith and conviction, bringing these values into every project she undertakes. From her role as a community quarterback to her leadership in tackling systemic poverty, LaShunda has proven she’s ready to bring bold, effective solutions to Rochester City Council.

Affordable Housing for All
Housing is a human right. I will fight for policies that prioritize safe, affordable housing and protect our residents from displacement. By investing in mixed-income developments and supporting first-time homebuyers, we can create stable, inclusive neighborhoods for every Rochesterian. -
Community-Driven Development
Rochester’s future should be shaped by its people. I will advocate for development projects that engage our residents from the start and prioritize local businesses, creating spaces that reflect our community’s needs and desires. -
Economic Empowerment
A rising tide lifts all boats. I will work to support small businesses, increase access to job training programs, and attract new industries to our city. Economic empowerment is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and I am committed to ensuring every resident has the tools they need to thrive. -
Public Safety and Community Trust
Safe neighborhoods are built on trust. I will champion community policing efforts that strengthen relationships between law enforcement and residents, ensuring our streets are safe and our voices are heard. We need a public safety approach that protects, respects, and serves everyone.
